Doonan Corn Roast 2008

Every year George and Norma put on a "Corn Roast" and "Horse Shoe Tournament". This year I believe there were approximately 87 people there for the horse shoe tournament on Saturday. Some of us come and stay in our RV'S and some of their friends just come for the day on Saturday. Ernest and I usually arrive on Friday afternoon, in this video you can see all the rigs set up around the horse shoe pits. It is a lot of work for George and Norma and I just hope they know how much we all enjoy this special weekend with them.

Starting with the "clam chowder & hamburger soup" on Friday night we continue to eat our way through the weekend, thanks to Norma and George. They make "Eggs Benedict" on Saturday morning for all us who are camping there, yummy! We all put out food for "lunch/happy hour" while the tournament is going on and then the Doonan's feed all us a " corn on the cob & chili" for dinner. On Sunday morning while we are getting the rigs ready to head home, George and Norma are up early getting breakfast ready once again, this time we have a full breakfast of sausages, eggs and pancakes.

We are also fortunate to have some talented people who play their instruments and sing for us though out the evening. I would like to give a special thanks to them, even if they do not follow my blog. They make a perfect end to a perfect day!

Thank you Norma and George!

Here are the Rigs!

How about some Breakfast?

Now for the Tournament!

The Alabama Horseshoe Tournament in Stockton became the State Tournament in 1992 by Act no. 92-697.
It was held for a few years as part of the annual Stockton festival. The festival and horseshoe tournament were discontinued after a few years.
